Many have said they are drinking white tea because of its low levels of caffeine. This is not true, that in fact this tea may contain higher levels of caffeine than black tea fermented Pu-erh tea or much more.

The level of caffeine does not really have much to do with the processing time or oxidation but more about the plant variety and the position of the leaves collected. Growing up in India and Sri Lanka tea contains caffeine even more than the Chinese varieties.

The caffeine content is also depending on how the tea is prepared. If he did so in the traditional Chinese Gong Fu Cha contain less caffeine because tea is prepared in earthenware teapots with more cooking and a very short maceration time.

There are two sides of caffeine, it will speed up your metabolism and burn more calories and will make you lose water weight and dehydration if you drink too much like drinking a lot of coffee. Caffeine is good for weight loss and the negatives are outweighed by other positive properties of white tea.

One of the main factors of the health benefit of white tea is the high level of antioxidants such as catechins which is also present in red wine, chocolate and apples. The catechin polyphenols found in white tea belongs to a family called molecular flavenoids. Laboratory tests have shown that these flavenoids inhibit the growth of cancer cells and prevent activity of free radicals that can lead to cancer.
